John Winn Miller’s WWII Thriller ‘Rescue Run’ Named Finalist for Prestigious Military Writers Society of America Award

LA CRESCENTA, CA – July 26, 2025 – John Winn Miller’s latest historical thriller, Rescue Run: Capt. Jake Rogers’ Daring Return to Occupied Europe, has been named a 2025 Award Finalist by the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA). The announcement guarantees the novel a gold, silver, or bronze medal, with the final results to be revealed at the annual MWSA awards banquet in Kansas City, MO, on September 28, 2025.

This recognition continues the success of Miller’s Peggy C. Saga, following its award-winning predecessor, The Hunt for the Peggy C. Published by Bancroft Press, Rescue Run plunges readers back into the heart of World War II. The story picks up with Captain Jake Rogers, who, after being shipwrecked in neutral Ireland, learns that the love of his life’s father has been arrested by the Nazis.

Rogers and his crew embark on a perilous undercover mission into Holland, leading to a desperate flight for survival across occupied Europe, pursued by a ruthless bounty hunter and Nazi forces.

“To have my work recognized by the Military Writers Society of America is a profound honor,” said Miller. “My goal was to capture the immense courage and sacrifice of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances during the war. Being named a finalist by a society of peers who understand this world so deeply is incredibly gratifying.”

The novel has already received widespread critical acclaim. #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins praised it as a “wonderful discovery,” saying, “RESCUE RUN has everything I love in a story: nonstop adventure and intrigue, characters to root for, ratcheting tension, all wrapped in a tangled story of political gamesmanship, spycraft, and military action.”

BookLife/Publishers Weekly named it an Editors' Pick, calling it a “rousing, breathless thriller” and a “page-turner that balances explosive action with thoughtful storytelling.”

Rescue Run is the second installment in a series that masterfully blends naval warfare with ground-level espionage. The first book, The Hunt for the Peggy C, was also an MWSA Gold Medal award recipient and praised by the society as a book that will “keep you in a perpetual state of suspense.”
